My Philosophy of Education

I beleive that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring and stimulating learning atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my aspiration as an educator to help students achieve their fullest potential in these areas by providing them with an environment that is safe, supports risk taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. I will help children to develope their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist children in discovering who they are so they can express their own opinions and ideas.

Every classroom presents a unique community of learners that varies not only in abilities, but also in learning styles. My role as a teacher is to identify those learning styles and needs of each child and give them the tools to become successful learners and communicators. To accomplish this goal, I will teach to the needs of each child so that all learners can feel capable and successful. I will present the curriculum in such a way that it involves the interest of the children and makes learning relevant to life. I will incorporate themes, integrated units, projects, cooperative learning, individual work, and hands on learning in order to make children active learners. Finally, I will make a connection between learning and the world community. Children are our future and I feel that it is important to help children become caring and active members of our society.

My classroom will be a caring and safe environment where every child can blossom and grow as individuals. Students will not only learn academics but they will learn compassion and respect, not only for themselves but for others as well. I will allow children to become responsible members of our classroom community by using strategies such as class meetings and positive discipline. In showing children how to become responsible for themselves as well as their own learning, I am giving them the tools to become successful in life, to believe in themselves, and to love themselves.

Teaching will provide me with a lifelong opportunity for continual learning and self growth. One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students. I feel that learning should be exciting, and it is my goal to share and express my enthusiasm as I share my own passion for learning with them.  I feel that there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. It is important for students to not only recieve a solid education, but to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am that person and I will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.
