Shape Poetry
Students gain a better understanding and appreciation of shape poetry by listening to and viewing many different examples. As a class students create a shape poem together and then work on their own as an assignment.
This is an example of a few of the students shape poems. (rain drop, turtle, basketball.) Students were very imaginative and ran with this assignment.

The Legend of Mackinac Island (with puppets)
Students learn the major components of a story (lesson, moral, characters, setting, etc.) and then are able to retell the story in chronological order by identifying key events with the character puppets.
These are puppets I created myself and used for the story.

Where the Red Fern Grows-Scene Acting
Students retell scenes from select chapters of Where the Red Fern Grows by working in groups and acting them out for their classroom audience.
A bulletin board I created for the vocabulary words the students defined from the first five chapers of Where the Red Fern Grows. Each leaf color represents a new chapter.
